“Are you ready, Steve!” Amy calls out from the hallway. “Close your eyes!”

Closing them tight, Steve hears the two scurry into the kitchen. “Can I open them?”

“Yeah!” Amy squeaks.

Opening his eyes slowly, he sees Blake and his wife standing off to the side. Trying to take it all in, Steve focuses his attention on Blake.

“Blue hair?” Steve questions.

Blake goes a little red and starts fiddling with his fingers.

“Yeah, blue hair!” Amy squeals. “Isn’t our daughter pretty!”

Reaching across to touch Blake's chin, Steve lifts her face to look deep into her eyes. “Oh, deffo pretty,” he answers with a smile. “She’s still got my eyes though!”

Blake grins up at her father, pleased.

“Other than the blue hair,” Steve remarks, patting Blake on the head. “You kinda still look the same. Maybe a little skinnier. How do you feel?”

“I feel very different,” Blake replies, looking down at himself.

“Your school uniform appears to still fit,” Steve replies. “It’s not quite correct for girls at your school, but it’s good enough.”

Amy walks around from behind Blake and leans against the kitchen counter.

“We are going to have to pick up a few bits tonight,” Amy states. “Skirts, tights, and other feminine essentials.”

Amy leans down to whisper in Steve’s ear. “She’s going to need bras, I think. Her body is going to start filling out real soon.”

“Mom…!” Blake moans, looking worried. “We still haven’t decided on my name!”

“Oh yeah,” Amy grins, standing straight. “Well, what girl's names do you like?”

“Sophie’s a pretty name,” Blake replies.

“Oh god no,” Steve interrupts. “I knew a Sophie, and she was horrible.”

Blake looks down and thinks hard. “What about Alex?”

“Alex?” Amy queries. “Why Alex?”

“After Alex Morgan,” Blake smiles. “She’s like a sorta hero to me. She’s one of the reasons I follow women’s soccer. I guess she’s even more important to me now that I’m a girl. Hopefully, I can play for the national team like her.”

“I like it,” Steve says. “Maybe it can be short for Alexis.”

“Yeah!” Blake grins. “I’m happy with that!”

“Awesome,” Amy laughs, moving to give her new daughter a big cuddle. “Alex it is!”

“Hey kiddo,” Steve says, grabbing Alex’s attention. “It’s going to take me a little while to get used to you being a girl now. Just an apology in advance if I refer to you as Blake or as he.”

“That’s ok,” Alex grins as Amy lets go. “It hasn’t really sunk in for me yet either. I can still kinda feel it down there. It’s really weird.”

“Oh?” Steve reacts, raising an eyebrow.

“It’s like it’s gone up inside me,” Alex remarks, making a hand gesture to help explain. “Going to the toilet kinda still feels the same, but you push from within. Not sure if that’s normal.”

“Very normal,” Amy laughs as Alex and Steve quickly join in.

“Anyway!” Amy says sternly. “We’ve gotta brush your hair and put it up before school. We can’t have you doing the girls' team tryouts tonight with hair all in your face.”

“Oh crap!” Alex groans, looking tense. “Will my boots still fit me!?”

“I can pick some up later if not,” Steve replies, sipping his coffee. “What size are you, Bla—Alex?”

“I…..don’t know,” Alex answers as Amy starts guiding him out.

“Come on sweety,” Amy says, beckoning Alex to follow her. “We’ve gotta do your hair, and I want to talk to you a little more about being a girl. I’m sure Dad doesn’t want to hear us discussing our bodies.”
